PART II – INSTRUCTOR INSTINCTS: (SERIES 2)
1. An Engine company is operating at a fire in a multiple dwelling where they have stretched 5 lengths of 1 ¾” hose to the fire apartment on the 4th floor. In this situation, the ECC would be most correct if he determined the pressure required for this handline to be? (TB—App P-3—10.1)
A. 155 psi B. 160 psi C. 165 psi D. 170 psi

A

1) ANSWER: C = 5 lengths of 1 3/4 @ 20 lbs per length is 100 psi + 50 psi at nozzle + 5 psi for each floor above grade. 100 + 50 + 15=165 PSI

    C. A low rate alarm will occur with a slow beeping and a slow green light flashing at rate of 1 mR/hr
    D. A high dose alarm will occur with a quick beeping and a fast red light flashing at a dose of 10 Rem
A

6) ANSWER: B

1.2 The UltraRadiac has the capability to detect Gamma and X-ray radiation. Therefore, the
UltraRadiac will measure the RATE and DOSE based only on the presence of these
specific types of radiation

  1. FUNCTION KEYS
5.1 The primary function of each of the function keys is briefly described below.
    • ON/OFF Press and hold to turn the unit on and off.

25
Q
  1. A Lieutenant conducting a drill on Engine operations in multiple dwellings was correct when he made which statement? (FFP MD—3.3.29 A, B, C, 4.4.2 C)
    A. At multiple dwelling fires, the first line is normally stretched via the interior stairs to the location of the fire. The primary purpose of this line is to extinguish the fire.
    B. The second hoseline at multiple dwelling fires is also usually stretched by way of the interior stairs. It should go directly to the floor above to protect members at that location.
    C. The third line at multiple dwelling fires, especially Old Law Tenements, should usually be stretched via the fire escape.
    D. At large volume store fires in Old Law Tenement buildings, the first two lines should both be 2 ½ and both be stretched to the store.
A

7) ANSWER: C

 The first line stretched for a fire in a multiple dwelling should be stretched by
way of the interior stairs. The primary purpose of this line is to safeguard the
stairway so that it can be used by the escaping occupants. The door to the fire
apartment must not be opened while people are coming down the stairway
from the floors above. When the safety of the stairway is assured, this first
line may be advanced to extinguish the fire.
 The second hoseline is also usually stretched by way of the interior stairs to
the same floor as the first line. It is meant to augment the first line, if
necessary. If not needed on the original fire floor, it is then advanced to the
floor above.

4.3.1 Store fires in OLTs may involve a large amount of combustible material. A 2 ½”
line should be stretched for large volume fires and a second line stretched to the
entrance hallway. When assured that the second line is not needed on the first
floor, it may be advanced to the floor above the fire.

When you call the medical officer, he grants the member the remainder of the tour. In this situation, you would be correct to know that you should?
    (SB 7—2.1, 3.4.4, 4.2.2, Regs 11.3.36)

    B. Prepare a CD-73 for a non-biological exposure. This must be filed within 24 hours.
    C. Insure that the medical officer is informed that the member has both an injury and an exposure
    D. Notify Safety that the member had an injury to a protected area and that you have placed his hood out of service.
A

8) ANSWER: C

2.1.2 Remainder of the Tour is an excused absence granted by the on duty medical
officer for an injury. This excused absence does not exceed the current tour the
member was working. This excused absence is not designated as Medical Leave.

2.2.2 Non-Biological Exposures - A member exposed to a non-biological hazardous
substance, or possible hazardous substance. Medical officer notification is
required only for symptoms.
Note: If a member exhibits symptoms from a biological or non-biological exposure,
both an Injury and an Exposure Report must be completed.

11.3.36 When a member suffers an injury to an area of the body which is covered by
protective clothing/equipment intended to prevent such an injury, and it is
severe enough to cause the granting of a medical leave, the item of
clothing/equipment shall be placed out of service.
This item shall be tagged and identified with member’s name, unit, date and
type of injury. Immediately upon return to quarters, the officer on duty shall
notify the Division of Safety and be guided by instructions received as to
disposition of said article.
