Q
PART II - TB – FOAM:

A) AFFF
B) Hi-Ex
C) Alcohol Resistant Fluoroprotein
D) Fluoroprotein
A
  1. D
18
Q
  1. Which choice below contains incorrect information regarding Fluoroprotein foam? (TB Foam 3.1.1 4-7)
    A) Fluoroprotein foam permits operating forces to enter the blanket area with caution, for rescue, search and overhauling. Foam shall be applied continuously whenever personnel are operating in a foam blanket.
    B) Fluoroprotein foam is effective on reformulated gasoline (RFG), which contains up to 20% Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE).
    C) Fluoroprotein foam is also effective on gasohol containing up to 10% ethanol.
    D) Fluoroprotein foam is also suitable for polar solvent fuels (alcohols, ketones, etc.), and is effective on pure MTBE.
A

2) D = (Fluoroprotein foam is not suitable for polar solvent fuels (alcohols, ketones, etc.), nor is it effective on pure MTBE.)

19
Q
  1. Fluoropolydol is the superior fire extinguishing concentrate for both hydrocarbon fuels (gasoline, fuel oils, etc) as well as polar solvents (alcohols, ketones, etc). It is used at a rate of? (TB Foam 3.2.1 1)

C) Alcohol Resistant Fluoroprotein
D) Fluoroprotein
A
  1. A
21
Q
5. Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film Forming Foam (ARAFFF,) commonly found throughout the oil industry is not suitable for cold weather use. The pour point of some brands is \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ degrees Fahrenheit resulting in very poor proportioning at colder temperatures. This produces a very poor foam blanket. (TB Foam 3.4.1 7)
A) 5 degrees
B) 45 degrees
C) 10 degrees
D) 54 degrees
A
  1. B
22

A) Fluoroprotein BROWN
B) Alcohol GREEN
C) Hi-Expansion ORANGE
D) AFFF BLACK
A

A
  1. C
24
Q
8. Where foam must be used for fire in a confined area such as a tank, certain procedures must be followed. If the tank is filled to the top, bulk oil personnel will have to remove some product via the bottom of the tank. If planning to extinguish the fire, insure that the product level is within \_\_\_\_\_\_\_ of the tank. If too much product is removed a large "chimney" will form and carry away much of the foam. (TB Foam 7.2.4)
A) five feet of the bottom
B) five feet of the top
C) ten feet of the bottom
D) ten feet of the top
A
  1. B
25
Q
9 If a flammable or combustible spill has ignited, stretch a foam hand line and extinguish the fire. The amount of concentrate available on a first alarm assignment is thirteen 5-gallon cans. With one hand line in operation, you will be able to extinguish approximately 600 sq. ft. (20’X30’) of fire. This supply will last approximately? (TB Foam 7.3.1)
A) 55 minutes
B) 15 minutes
C) 32 minutes
D) 22 minutes
A
  1. D

7.3 Spills
7.3.1 If the spill has ignited, stretch a foam hand line and extinguish the fire.
The amount of concentrate available on a first alarm assignment is thirteen
5-gallon cans. With one hand line in operation, you will be able to extinguish
approximately 600 sq. ft. (20X30) of fire. This supply will last approximately
22 minutes. Using 2 hand lines simultaneously, you can increase your area but
this will reduce operational time. Both criteria are important in being successful.
Anything more than a small spill may require additional alarms as well as the
transmission of signal 10-86.
Note: NFPA 11 recommends having a 15-minute supply of concentrate on hand
for spill fires.

26
Q
  1. For a tank truck accident with a leak, if the leak is near the bottom of the tank and the product that is leaking has a specific gravity less than 1 (almost all flammable and combustible liquids do) and there is room at the top of the tank, you may want to add water to the tank. The water will settle to the bottom of the tank and the product will float on top of the water, resulting in a “water leak.” Do you agree or disagree with the above statement? (TB Foam 7.4.1 C)
    A) Agree or D) Disagree
A
  1. A
27
Q
  1. When it comes to tank trucks, officers should know that with newer aluminum tanks, the problem of BLEVE has been reduced because the shell will melt at approximately 1220 degrees F. If the tank is made of steel or when an aluminum tank is intact, and the chance of a BLEVE still exists it is extremely important to do what? (TB Foam 7.4.3 A)
    A) Get any available stream on the underside of the tank quickly.
    B) Get any available stream on the vapor area of the tank quickly.
    C) Get a large caliber stream on the vapor area of the tank quickly.
    D) Get a large caliber stream on the engine area of the truck quickly.
A
  1. C
28
Q
  1. During operations, avoid disturbing the foam blanket. This is especially true if walking through it. There will be instances where in the case of rescue members will have to enter the blanket. All members that enter the blanket will wear all personal protective clothing including a donned face piece. A foam nozzle should be directed where as members advance? (TB Foam 7.9.2)
    A) well ahead of the members
    B) at the back of the members’ ankles C) at the back of the members’ knees D) at the side of the members, flanking their position
A
  1. C
29
Q
  1. With synthetic based foam, which includes our AFFF and Hi-Ex foams, the shelf life will be approximately? (TB Foam 9.2)
    A) 5 years
    B) 10 years C) 15 years D) 20 years
A
  1. B
30
Q
  1. When delivering Hi-Ex foam into an area that is below the generator it may not be necessary to seal off the area around the foam discharge. If there are obstructions in close proximity of the discharge preventing a free flow of foam and causing the foam to back out of the area, sealing the area around the discharge outlet or repositioning the generator must be considered. Do you agree or disagree with the above statement? (TB Foam 12.13 F)
    A) Agree or D) Disagree
A
  1. A
31
Q
  1. A Combustible Liquid is a liquid with a flash point of 100 degrees F or lower. Do you agree or disagree with the above statement? (TB Foam Definitions)
    A) Agree or D) Disagree
A

15) D = (A Combustible Liquid is a liquid with a flash point of 100 degrees F or higher. A Flammable Liquid is a liquid with a flash point below 100 degrees F and a vapor pressure of 40 PSIG at 100 degrees F.)
