- Menstrual Phase
- Superficial, functional layer of endometrial lining sloughing off from uterine wall
- Bleeding 3-5 days
- Average blood loss 50-150 ml (~.25 - .5 cup)
- By day 5, growing ovarian follicle producing more estrogen

Days 6-14

- Proliferative Phase
- Functional layer regenerates
- Glands form from functional layer
- Endometrial blood increases, making it well vascularized again
- At the end of this phase, ovulation occurs, caused by release of LH into bloodstream

Days 15-28 (constant)

- Secretory Phase
- Triggered by corpus luteum’s progesterone, endometrium blood level rises more
- Glands secrete nutrients into uterine cavity

- Everything in (constant)
- Embryo produces LH-like hormone that causes corpus luteum to continue producing its hormones

- Corpus luteum degenerates and blood levels decline
- Blood vessels supplying functional layers spasm and kink
- Spasms and kinking causes endometrial cells to die, setting up for Menstrual Phase
