FINAL Hematology whole blood components Flashcards
Formed elements are:
Erythrocytes. (RBC)
Leukocytes. (WBC)
Platelets (clotting)
Whole blood is made up of
45% formed elements
55% plasma
Types of leukocytes:
Granulocytes. (Granules in cytoplasm)
Agranulocytosis. (No granules)
3 types of granulocytes
Neutrophils - ingest and engulf and are also the most prevalent WBC
Eosinophils - detoxify foreign protein & defend against allergies
Basophils - allergic response, releases histamines & heparin
2 types of Agranulocytes
Monocytes - largest WBC, plays a role in immunity
Lymphocytes - main focus is viral and leukemias
2 types of lymphocytes
T-cells - immune response & hypersensitivity
B-cells - produce specific antibodies to antigens
3 parts of plasma are:
90% water
9% Protein
1% gases, hormones, enzymes, wastes
4 types of protein
Albumin - blood consistency
Globulin Antibodies
Amino Acids - controls protein breakdown & tissue repair
Fibrinogen - clotting
