network of personal and social relationships that arise as people associate with other people in a work environment
individuals would consent to authority if 4 conditions were met
- they understood the communicated order
- they believed the order was consistent with the organisations purpose
- the order was compatible with their personal interests as a whole
- the were physically and mentally able to comply with the order
zone of indifference
barnard - the zone that people will follow orders without questioning authority
