Feeding relationships Flashcards
Think self reliant
What is a producer?
An orgnisum that amkes its own food
Primary so first step of feeding
What is a primary consumer?
An organsum that feeds on producers
Herbivors
Predatory but not nessacrily the top
What is a secondary consumer?
An organsium that feeds of the primary consumer
carnivors or omnivors
Top of top predators
What is a territory consumer?
Consume secondary consumers and can somtimes alos consume primary consumers
Catnivors
What is biomass?
Measure of living material in each trophic level
How do you calculate the efficency of biomass transfer?
percentage eficeny transfer = biomass in higher trophic level / biomass in lower trophic level * 100
Energy is lost:
Why is biomass not 100% efficent?
- Egestion
- Excretion
- Respiration
*
Around only 10% is passed on to the next trophic level that is why the top trophic levls have teh lowest biomass
How does the efficecy of biomass transfer affect the number of trophic levels in a biomass pryamid?
- less efficent the transfer means less trophic levels and less organsiums in hiigher trophic levels
Multiple and singular
What is a diffrence between a food web and a food chain?
- Food web- shows multiple interactions within multiple food chains
- Food chain - one path of food depdency
