Biology (Characteristics of living Organisms) Flashcards
What is Movement?
The action of MUSCLES in animals and slow growth in plants
What are the eight life processes?
.Movement
.Respiration
.Sensitivity
.Growth and development
.Reproduction
.Excretion
.Homeostasis
.Nutrition
What is Respiration?
Release of ENERGY from food requires OXYGEN
What is Sensitivity (stimuli)?
Responding to their surrounding or like a plant responding to the stimulus of light.
What is Growth and Development?
Increase in size and complexity using the materials from their food
What is Reproduction?
Producing OFFSPRING
What is Excretion?
Removal of toxins from the body like SWEATING, URINATING, BREATHING OUT CARBON DIOXIDE
What is Homeostasis?
SENSITIVE TO CHANGE inside as well as outside like shivering in the cold
What is Nutrition?
Animals consume food, plants PHOTOSYNTHESIS and fungi are SAPROPHYTIC.
What are all living things made up of?
CELLS
What are Simple Organisms?
Organisms that are made up of ONE CELL like AMOEBA and BACTERIA
What are Multicellular Organisms?
Organisms that are made of MANY CELLS with different STRUCTURES and they are SPECIALIZED to carry out SPECIFIC ROLES examples of multicellular organisms are PLANTS, ANIMALS and HUMAN
What is in a Animal cell?
.Nucleus
.Cell membrane
.Mitochondria
.Cytoplasm
What is in a Plant cell?
.Cell wall
.Cell membrane¨.Vacuole
.Mitochondria
.Nucleus
.Chloroplast
