Fact Checking (2/3) Flashcards
1
Q
What is another name for Genetic Errors?
A
Base pair errors, they can occur but they are not frequent.
2
Q
How can the DNA polymerase tell if their is an error?
A
DNA polymerase proof reads its work after adding a nucleotide, if the complementary strand and the original strand doesn’t have a hydrogen bond in the middle, there is a mismatch.
3
Q
When there is a mismatch, how does it get fixed?
A
Nucleotide Excision Repair.
4
Q
Process of the Nucleotide Excision Repair
A
1.) Nucleases cut damaged DNA
2.) DNA polymerase corrects the base pairs
3.) DNA ligase seals the gaps.
