Closer Look at Replication (1/3) Flashcards
What begins the process of replication.. and what does it do?
Helicase begins the process of replication, it is an enzyme that breaks the weak hydrogen bonds, allowing for DNA strands to unzip into 2 parent strands.
After the helicase, what happens next in the process of replication?
Single Stranded Binding Proteins, bind to the unpaired DNA strands to stabilize them.
After the SSBP, what happens next in the process of replication?
Topermierase help relieve the strain of twisting DNA ahead of the replication fork by breaking, swiveling and rejoining DNA strands.
After the topoisonmerase, what is the next step of the replication process?
Primase, which adds the RNA primer.
What is the RNA primer
The starting point of the attachment of the new nucleotides.
Where does the semi conservative come into play in this replication process?
The single stranded DNA will act as templates for the making new DNA strands.
