Facial Electrical Flashcards
Name the 2 types of Galvanic current used in facial electrical treatments
Desincrustation and Iontophoresis
What type of current is Galvanic?
Direct current. Smooth and flowing uninterrupted
What does EMS stand for?
Electrical Muscle Stimulation
Micro current facial treatment is also known as what?
Non surgical facelift
Micro current uses what type of current?
Direct current. Interrupted at low frequency
Name the 2 different types of high frequency treament
Direct and Indirect High Frequency
What type of current does high frequency use?
Alternating or oscillating current. A rapid backwards and forwards movement
What type of current does vacuum suction use?
No Current. Suction method.
What current does faradic (EMS) use?
Interrupted Direct current. It is rapidly switched on.
What does iontphoresis mean?
To push water-soluble products into the skin
During galvanic treatment what effects on the skin are created at the positive polarity (Anode)?
Vasoconstriction, stimulation and soothing of the nerve endings
What colour is high-frequency glass saturator containing mercury vapour?
Blue
What is Vacuum suction?
This treatment method is used to mechanically drain lymphatic vessels, which helps in the removal of waste products and fluid from the area which is being treated. This treatment is used to reinforce the manual cleanse, by removing any waste and toxins to improve the texture and colour of the skin.
To allow Vacuum suction to glide on the skin you must apply a what?
An appropriate lubricant
When performing vacuum suction you will guide the ventose to where on the face?
Towards the lymph nodes
What are the Contra indications to Vaccum Suction?
Sensitive skin with dilated capillaries Thin skin Loose skin Recent scar tissue. Skin diseases and disorders. Bruised skin. Bony areas where treatment would be ineffective. Acne Rosacea.
Name the type of current used in facial EMS treatment
The type of current used in facial EMS treatment is a low frequency interrupted direct current.
State two reasons why the motor point is the best place to position the electrodes during facial EMS treatment.
- It produces a more comfortable and effective contraction for the client.
- The motor point is where the nerve enters the belly of the muscle and produces stimulation of the nerve with minimum current intensity.
Identify the frequency that EMS treatment should be given if client is on a course of treatment
A course of treatment is between two and three treatment sessions a week for between four and six weeks.
Identify the number of facial contractions an individual muscle should receive to prevent muscle fatigue
Between 6 and 8 contractions.
What are the contraindications to Galvanic treatment
- Heart conditions/pace makers
- High/low blood pressure
- Lack of skin sensitivity
- Disorders of the nervous system
- Cuts and abrasions
- Metal pins, plates, teeth braces, and excessive fillings
- Infected acne
- Diabetic skins
- Sunburn
- Hypersensitive skins (acne rosacea, broken capillaries)
- Highly nervous clients
- Temperature
- Pregnancy
What are the effects of Galvanic treatment?
- Rehydrates the skin tissues and balance moisture level
- Deep cleansing to a range of skin types
- Improves skin texture
- Firms and refines tissues
- Closes and tightens pores through astringent action
- Calms and soothes vascular response
- Stimulation of a sluggish congested skin
- Softens blockages and relaxes pores
- Improves skin colour through stimulating blood circulation
- Has a drying effect on oily skin conditions
What makes the products used in galvanic treatments different from other facial products and how do they penetrate the tissues?
The products used in galvanic treatments differ from other facial products as they are water soluble ionised products which are drawn into the skin tissues by the principle like repel; opposites attract when an electrical circuit is formed and the correct polarity for the products.
What is the positively electrode also know as?
Anode
