Temporalis: elevate and retract the mandible
Lateral pterygoid: protrusion and contralaterally deviate mandible
Medial pterygoid: elevate and contralaterally deviate mandible

Anterior belly: opens mouth by lowering mandible
Posterior belly: pulls hyoid upward and back
