what muscles contract during accommodation to round up the lens for near sightedness
Ciliary muscles. this allow the zonular fibers to relax and the lens rounds up to its more natural state
This also opens up the trabecular meshwork which allows for more passage of the aqueous humor to drain from anterior chamber
What beta adenergic eye help treat open-angle glaucoma by preventing secretion of aqueous humor?
Timolol. acts on the ciliary epithelium
What is a selective synthetic muscurinic agaonist that closes the pupil and promotes accommodation?
Carbachol
Acts on the Sphincter muscles and the Ciliary muscles
Acetylcholineesterase inhibitor?
Physostigmine
What muscarinic antagonist helps dilate the eye during an eye exam and what muscles does it act on?
Tropacamide
acts on Sphincter muscles and Ciliary muscles
What synthetic alpha-adrenergic selective agonist drug could cause dilation of the pupil and is seen in allergy medications?
Phenylephrine acting on the alpha-adrenergic receptors of the Dilator muscles
Cocaine inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine causing the pupils to
dilate because of excessive NE stimulation on the alpha adrenergic receptors of the the Dilator muscles
If you dilate the pupil in someone with closed-angle glaucoma
this makes it worse, blocks the canal of schlemm even more. I’m guessing other than being a medical emergency, you need to treat with sympathetic antagonists and parasymp agonists?
Opioids stimulate what to cause miosis?
Muscarinic stimulation
