EXTRA STUDY Flashcards
Explain Alternation of generations
The process of alternating between sexual reproduction (haploid, gameophyte generation) and asexual reproduction (diploid, sporophyte generation) within a plant.
Describe the three differences between dicot and monocot
monocots: parallel veins, fibrous roots, one cotyledon
dicots: branched veins, tap root, two cotyledons
Explain the structure of bryophytes
antheridium, archegonium. male and female parts. gametes create diploid spores. rhizoids that anchor. Thallus.
what are protozoans
largest animal-like protist group
What are the three tropisms
phototropism, gravitropism, thigmotropism
Give an example of a parasitic and mutualist fungus
parasitic: haustoria attacks cells and absorbs nutrients from the inside out
mutualistic: algae and fungi function together to make lichen. Mycorrhizae and roots of plants increase surface area for extra absorption of nutrients
Chrytids and Microsporidians
Most ancient fungi. Intracellular parasite, such as amphibian disease.
Fungi is grouped based on what?
spore arrangement
Three main groups of fungus
Basidiomycetes (common mushroom), Ascomycetes (ringworms), and zygomycetes (red mold)
