During the battle of Loos the BEF were used as reserves..

3 of the 6 batalions who made up the BEF were fully scottish however the reserves were not used effectivly during the battle of loos.
they were marched 40miles to the front in heavy rain and by the time they asembled on the morning of the 26th they were tired, hungry and the battle had already lost the element of surprise. when the reserves joined they were met by heavy german artilary and machine gun fire.

The oficial death figure provided when the war ended was 74,000 - whilst newspapers reported casualty lists they did not acuratly report on scots experiance

They published heroic descriptions of the fighting taking place. Press reporting of the war was confined to strikt military cencorship and war corsepondents were not actually alowed anywere near the actual fighting

Many members of the glasgow batalions had either worked together ot were linked to there intrest in the boys bregade. They were all recruited from small parts of glasgow and these areas were left hugly effected by loss
the highland light infantry saw 20 officers and 534 men kiled on the FIRST DAY of the somme
it was also them who baracaded frankfurt trench for A WEEK
