2. Infectious Disease Exposure Incident – Source Patient Refusing Transport

If the source patient refuses transport, notify the on duty SAFO, request an EMS Supervisor, and remain with the source patient.

Employees shall:

a. Inform the source patient an infectious disease exposure has occurred and transport to the hospital.
i. Submit an FRD-314 and Consent to Collect and Test Blood (FRD-XXX) to the ICPO.
b. If the source patient refuses, the EMS Supervisor may request to draw blood for medical testing.

FRD can pursue legal authority to obtain blood.

The source patient can appeal the court order, then treat the exposure as there is no source patient blood available, and advise IDP.
