Q

What is a Laboratory Method - + strengths and limitations

A

An experiment conducted in a controlled environment. The IV is manipulated to observe the effect on the DV.
+ high control, standardised
+ can establish cause and effect
- low ecological validity
- demand characteristics

Q

What is a Field Method - + strengths and limitations

A

An experiment conducted in a natural surrounding. IV is manipulated to see affect on DV, there is some control
+ high ecological validity
+ demand characteristics reduced
- can’t control EVs

Q

What is the Natural Method - + strengths and limitations

A

The IV varies naturally and the DV is measured. The event would happen without the experimenter investigating.
+ demand characteristics reduced
- must wait for situation to naturally occur
- can not control EVs

Q

What is the Quasi Method - + strengths and limitations

A

IV occurs naturally. Experimenter is unable to change IV or randomly allocate ppts to conditions.
+ some control over EVs
- may be difficult to recruit ppts
must wait for situation to naturally occur
