Detailed, in - depth investigations of an individual or small group usually regarding an unusual phenomenon or biological event of interest to a research field

A
+ rich in depth analysis can bring high validity
+studying abnormal psychology can give insight into how something works when it is functioning correctly

Limitations of Case Studies
A
- little control over a number of variables
- case studies are unusual - poor reliability
- can’t be generalised to whole population
- researcher could become biased if they get too involved
