excretory system Flashcards
what does the kidney do
its job it to filter blood from urine
what are ureters job
tube on kidney that leads to bladder (acts as transport)
urinary bladder job
stores all the urine
what does the uretha do
its the pee tube from bladder to outside body (exsit passage)
were does the renal artery bring blood to and from
brings blood to kidney
were does the renal vein bring blood to and from
it brings blood away from the kidney
renal cortex location
outside of kidney
(you can remember this is the outside by corTEX and tex is like texas and they wear hats and there on the outside of the head)
renal medulla location
middle area of kidney
(can remember by m=middle)
renal pelvis location / function
lts a branch like thing thats thick and it stores urine and is storage unit
3 main things kidneys do
-rehabsorb essential things
- filter blood
- secreate waste (pee) with things we dont need
how do kidneys do their 3 main functions
-remove wastes from blood (mictritation)
- balances blood ph by removing hydrogen ions
- maintains water balance (from adh)
what is one of the main nutrients we need and what is the excess broken down into
protein and the excess is broken down into carbs and nitrogenous waste that are toxic
how does the kidney maintain good ph
by secreating (peeing out) hydo ions and ammonia and reabsorption of bicarbonate
how does kidney maintain water balance
by hormoes (adh) and (aldosterone)
by active and passive transport that will help water diffuse back into body
what does adh do and how does it work
secreated by pituitary and it pulls more water back into kidney for when its dehydrated
what does aldosterone do and how doe sit work
released by adrenal gland (edge kidney) and it responds to low bp and rehabsorbs sodium and water follows it
what does the afferent arteriole do
blood that enters bowmans capsule
what does efferent arteriole do
blood that leaves bowmans capsule
what does the glomerulus do
its the filtrator and is the spegetti of capillarys in bowmans capsule
where is the proximal tubule
closest to bowmans caspsule
what doe sthe bowmans capsule do
filtrates by squeezing
where is the loop of henle
its the dip down into the kidney
where is the distal tube
its the farthest away from the bowmans capsule
where are the collecting ducts
they do fine tuning to the pee and maintain it
how does filtration work
High blood pressure in the glomerulus forces materials from an area of high concentration to low concentration
(passive transport)
what stays it in capillaries
red blood cells, plasma proteins, platelets
to big so it stays
what is reabsorbed in body proximal tubule
water, bicarbonate, sodium, nutrients, potassium
what is reaborbed in the loop of Henle
water (descending), salt (ascending)
what is reaborbed in distal tubule
salt, water, bicarbonate
what is reabsorbed in the collecting Duct
salt, urea and water
secreation (removed from body) proximal tubule
hydrogen ions and Ammonia
secreation (removed from body) distal tubule
potassium and hydrogen ions
