Loose areolar tissue
Pericranium=periosteum (membranous tissue)
What is the musculature of the scalp?
Occipitofrontalis=in aponeurosis layer
Occipital belly-retracts the scalp
Frontalis belly-protracts the scalp
What is the arterial supply of the scalp?
Internal carotid artery brs.
opthalmic artery–> supratrochlear + subraorbital artery
External carotid artery brs.
superficial temporal artery
posterior auricular artery
occipital artery
What drains the scalp?
diploic veins in the diploe (spongy bone)
low yield
What are the muscles of the mouth?
orbicularis oris, buccinator, lip elevators, lip depressors
What is the orbicularis oris muscle? What is its action?
surrounds the entire mouth above and below the lips
Action: forming sounds for speech
What is the buccinator muscle?
Deep to the masseter m & penetrated by the parotid duct (HIGH YIELD)
What is the PA, DA, and action of the buccinator?
low yield, excpet action
PA: alveolar process
DA: pterygomandibular raphe
Action: keeps the cheek taut
What are the lip elevators?
- levator labii superioris alaeque nasi
- levator labii superioris
- levator anguli oris (levatate corners of mouth)
- risorius (straight smile)
- zygomaticus major & minor
What are the lip depressors?
- depressor anguli
- mentalis
- depressor labii inferioris
- platysma
What does orbit mean?
bony cavity housing the eyball
“eye socket”
What are the muscles are the orbit?
orbicularis oculi, muscles acting on the eyebrows, muscles acting on the nose
What are the three parts of the orbicularis oculi?
- orbital part-closes eyelides (tightly)
- Palpebral part-closes eyelids
- Lacrimal part-pulls eyelid medially
What are the muscles acting on the eybrows?
Depressor Supercilii
Corrugator Supercilii
Procerus
What are the muscles acting on the nose?
Nasalis-flares nostrils
Depressor Septi Nasi-depresses nostrils
Procerus
What is the innervation of the face?
facial nerve (CNVII=7)
has 5 branches
facial nerve innervates stylohyoid + post belly of digastric
What are the branches of the Facial nerve CNVII=7?
Temporal, zygomatic, buccal,marginal mandibular, cervical
“This Zone Basically Makes Me Cry”
What muscles does the temporal branch innervate?
occipitofrontalis m–frontal portion =frontal belly
orbicularis oculi m..
What muscles does the zygomatic branch innervate?
zygomatic m.
levator labii superioris m.
orbicularis oculi m.
What muscles does the buccal branch innervate?
levator labii superioris m.
orbicularis oculi m.
What muscles does the marginal mandibular branch innervate?
risorius m.
depressor labii inferioris m.
mentalis m.
What muscles does the cervical branch innervate?
platysma m.
What is the vascularization of the face?
External carotid artery (5 branches)
Venous drainage: internal jugular vein (IJV)-low yield
Lymphatic drainage: sentinel lymph nodes-low yield
has 5 branches
What are the branches of the external carotid artery for face vascularization?
facial artery, superficial temporal artery, maxillary artery, posterior auricular artery, occipital artery
“Only Fans Posts Sexy Material”
What does the superficial temporal artery branch off into?
Branches off into transverse facial artery
What does the maxillary artery branches off into?
Branches off into superior and inferior alveolar & buccal arteries
“Max Always Bites”
What are salivary glands? Name them all
secrete saliva into oral cavity
parotid gland
submandibular gland
sublingual gland
PSS I have a secret Saliva!!
What is the location and innervation parotid gland?
pierces buccinator m @ 2nd molar (know this)
Location: b/w the mandible (jaw) +SCM
Innervation (parasymp): glossopharyngeal n. (CN IX=9)
What is the location and innervation of the submandibular gland?
Location: under the tongue–> shoots saliva (“gleeking”)
Innervation (parasymp): facial nerve (CNVII=7)
What is the location and innervation sublingual gland?
Location: under the sublingual fold
Innervation (parasymp): facial nerve (CNXII=7)
What are the parotid and submandibular glands covered by?
Covered by the investing layer of the deep cervical fascia.
What are the muscles of mastication of the face?
Temporalis: covers temporal bone
Masseter: coverers buccinator
Medial pterygoid
Lateral pterygoid
Talk Mean Me Like Terry
What muscles of mastication closes the mouth?
Temporalis
Masseter
Medial pterygoid
strong muscles close jaw– strongest=masseter
What muscles of mastication opens the mouth?
lateral pterygoid
weak muscles open jaw–> b/c gravity pulls the jaw down
_______ depresses the mandible which opens the mouth
digastric
What is the innervation of the muscles of mastication?
