Ethnicity
identification through language, religion, collective history, national origin, or other cultural characteristics.
Ethnic Cleansing
A dominant enthnic group getting rid of another, smaller ethnic group.
Genocide
The systematic killing of members of a racial, ethnic, or linguistic group.
Ethnic Enclave
a geographical area where a particular ethnic group is spatially clustered and socially and economically distinct from the majority group.
Ethnic Neighborhoods.
An area within a city containing members of the same ethnic background.
Segregation
the enforced separation of different racial, ethnic, or social groups within a society, often resulting in unequal access to resources and opportunities.
Centripetal Force
a force that brings people together or unifies a neighborhood, society, country
Centrifugal Force
A force that threatens the cohesion of a neighborhood, society, or country
Apartheid
the physical separation of different races into separate geographic areas.
Balkanization
the breakup of a larger country into smaller independent states which are often hostile to each other.
Nationalism
a political ideology that emphasizes the interests and culture of a particular nation, often leading to the desire for self-governance or independence.
Race
Historically defined by the physical characteristics of a group, especially skin color.
Racism
Belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.
Blockbusting
A process by which real estate agents convince white property owners to sell their houses at low prices because of fear that black families will soon move into the neighborhood.
White flight
white people leaving the inner city, as well as the movement of white people away from suburbs and neighborhoods, when Black people from the inner city started to move in.
