E.Target Zones Flashcards
What units is your heart rate measured in
Beats per minute - bpm
What is the meaning of maximum heart rate?(H RMax)
How would you work out your maximum heart rate? ( HR Max)
The highest number of times your heart can beat in one minute.
220-age
What effect does exercise have on your heart rate?
The heart beats faster so the rate goes up
What is your HR Max?
What is the HR Max for a 24 year old?
220-15= 205bpm
220-24=196bpm
What can your Heart Rate be used to show ?
The Intensity of the exercise done.
What are target / training zones used for in training?
Used to check that the intensity of exercise is enough to improve cardio vascular health and fitness
What percentages of the HRMax are used to calculate the lower and upper target/ training zones when training for cardio vascular fitness( aerobic endurance)
Upper limit - 85% of HR Max
Loser limit - 60 % of HR Max
If you are 15 years old work out your upper and lower threshold/zone
Upper - 205 x 0.85= 174 bpm
Lower- 205 x 0.60= 123bpm
What does the “ Borg RPE “ stand for?
Borg perceived rate of exertion
What is this scale used to measure?
The intensity of exercise.
What numbers does the scale go from and too?
6 - 20
How do you use your working heart rate to work out what number you are , on the scale?
Divide the working heart rate by 10
E.g working heart rate is 170 bpm, the result on the scale is 17 which equals “ very hard”
