EQA 1 Flashcards
Explain the process of glacial erosion (plucking)
As glaciers move the bottoms melt and seep into cracks. When this water freezes again the cracks widen. This process repeats until shards of rock are forced up my the ice and plucked from their place by the glacier eroding the bottom
Explain the glacial process (abrasion)
As the rocks are plucked from the glacier they scrape at the bottom of the floor eroding the rock below
What is a destructive plate boundary and explain how it effects the surface of the earth and how it moves.
The destructive plate boundary occurs when an oceanic plate and continental plate . The oceanic plate is forced under the continental plate. Friction is created at the subduction zone and can create earthquakes . Friction melts the oceanic plate and magma rises and erupts to the surface
What is a constructive plate boundary and how does it effect the earths crust .
When two plates move apart magma will rise to fill in the gap and will cool . The magma that has solidified will become a volcano and the magma below will force up
What is a conservative plate boundary and how does it occur
When two plate boundaries scrape past each other or at the same direction but at different speeds, friction will often result in an earthquake. The san Andreas earthquake was due to this plate boundary
How do glacial uplands form
As rock is transported due to abrasion and plucking lumps of rock will slowly form as they are ripped up . The clumps of rock slowly join creating an upland . Freeze thaw is again another process that rips up lumps of rocks
What is the difference between igneous and metamorphic and ingneous rock
Ingneous rock is when magma cools down and is turned into a crust and metamorphic rock is when pre existing rock is subjected to pressure forming metamorphic rock
