4.4 Flashcards
How does costal management effect costal processes
Groynes trap sediment meaning that the eroded materials are unable to be transported slowing down erosion making beaches . Since we want to protect out homes we influence costal processes
How does dredging effect the coastline
The basic aim of dredging is to remove silt (a material made of fine sand), clay and small particles of rock from the river’s bed.
However it also removes beneficial sand formations , it is extremely expensive it also removes spaces for fish to breed reducing the species.
How do industries effect the coastline
Tourism increases the use of groynes which slow down erosion. Fishing industries are taking too much produce . Building industries remove sediment and disturb ecosystems , construction tools like drills are destroying habitats
How does development in houses and jobs effect the coastline
Buildings can disrupt winds that can effect longshore drift.(the process of transporting sediment onto a beach. ) if the increase of building and tourism will increase then sea defenses will be installed which will effect the natural processes even more
Why is swanage in danger from increased erosion
Swanage is made of soft rock called clay due to the rock is vulnerable to erosion . Houses have been collapsed and families destroyed due to this more sea defenses have been put in
How is swanage being effected by costal processes
Swanage bay is on a concordant coastline and is all made of soft rock which is a lot more sceceptible to erosion . Long shore drift is a big deal we’re swanage is located and deepens the coast massively
