Q

When is simple epithelium called mesothelium?

A

When in serous (watery) membranes - lines the body cavity that doesn’t open to the exterior, eg pleura, pericardium and peritoneum.

16
Q

what type of epithelial tissue has microvilli at the ends?

A

nonciliated simple columnar.

17
Q

what type of epithelial tissue has cilia at the ends?

A

Ciliated simple columnar epithelium.

18
Q

what does apical layer mean?

A

Top layer of cells.

19
Q

Talk about stratified squamous epithelium.

A

Apical layer is flat however, deep layers vary from cuboidal to columnar. cells in basal layer divide and move upwards toward apical surface. Found in areas of wear and tear.

20
Q

what do all forms of epithelial tissue contain?

A

Apical surface, basement membrane, connective tissue.
