Connective tissue 7 Flashcards
What tissue type is the most abundant?
Connective tissue.
Is connective tissue made up of cells close together or far apart?
Far apart.
There are 5 types of connective tissue cells, what are they?
1) fibroblasts
2)macrophages
3) plasma cells
4) mast cells
5) adipocytes
Describe fibroblast cells.
present in several tissues, function is to secrete.
Describe macrophage cells.
Come from monocytes (white blood cells), engulf bacteria & cell debris by phagocytosis.
Describe plasma cells.
develop from B lymphocytes, make antibodies.
Describe mast cells.
Found near blood vessels. Part of reaction to injury, release histamine.
Describe adipocyte cells.
Fat cells or adipose cells, store triglycerides (fat).
connective tissue contains large amount of extracellular matrix, what are the main substances.
Cells and fibres.
There are 3 types of fibres found in the extracellular matrix, what are they?
1) collagen - strong & flexible.
2) elastic - smaller stretch, return to original length.
3) reticular - (form a mesh) provide support & strength.
What are the types of loose connective tissue?
Areolar - cells embedded in a matrix of glycoproteins, elastin & collagen fibres.
Adipose - cells filled with fat droplets
Reticular - mesh of reticulin fibers.
What are the terms to describe dense connective tissue?
Dense regular (wavy)
dense irregular (random),
elastic (spindly).
What is cartilage made up of?
Collagen & elastic fibres embedded in chondroitin sulphate.
what are cartilage cells called?
Chondrocytes.
Where is cartilage found?
In lacunae.
