Epithelial Cells Flashcards
1
Q
Glandular Epithelium
A
Secretory
- endocrine
- exocrine
2
Q
Simple Squamous
A
- single layer, thin
- allows of gases, ions, and small molecules e.g. alveoli
3
Q
Stratified Squamous
A
- lines surfaces exposed to abrasion, friction, physical stress
4
Q
Simple Cuboidal
A
- tall as they are wide with central nuclei
- lines protected surfaces
5
Q
Simple Columnar
A
- lines surfaces involved in secretion & absorption
- sometimes microvilli are present to increase SA or cilis to aid movement across surface
6
Q
Pseudostratified
A
- upper respiratory tract and sections of the male reproductive system.
- appears to include multiples layers but is only a single layer
7
Q
Transitional
A
- restricted to urinary system
- allows stretch & retration
- are lined by stratified cells that when relaxed appear stratified columnar but when stretched look like stratified cuboidal/squamous.
8
Q
stratified cuboidal/columnar
A
- rare
