Indications - ephedrine
A
- Used as a temporizing measure during volume resuscitation or until a vasoactive agent can be initiated
- Persistent post-intubation hypotension

Dosage - ephedrine
A
0.2 mg/kg IV/IO to a single max dose of 10 mg q 5 min prn

Contraindications - ephedrine
A
Hypersensitivity to ephedrine or other sympathomimetics
Note MAOIs may increase pressor response. Tricyclic antidepressants may decrease pressor response. Effects are diminished in patients with prolonged hyperadrenergic state (e.g., sepsis, prolonged distress, trauma).
