Dopamine HCL

Indications - Intropin (dopamine HCL)

Answer 1

• Symptomatic bradycardia
• Shock with hypotension refractory to fluid resuscitation
• Cardiogenic shock with refractory hypotension

Question 2

Dose - Dopamine

Answer 2

Start at 5 mcg/kg/min IV/IO and titrate to a maximum of 20 mcg/kg/min

Question 3

Contraindications - Intropin (dopamine HCL)

Answer 3

• Hypovolemic shock where complete fluid resuscitation has not occurred
• Pheochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumour)
• Uncorrected tachyarrhythmias
• Ventricular fibrillation
• Monoamine oxidase inhibitor therapy within last 14 days
• Hypersensitivity to sulphites
