A

25g SIVP/IO q 5min prn, titrate to BGL greater than or equal to 4.0 mmol or patient improvement to a total max of 50g

Pediatric dose for dextrose

A

D25W 0.5g/kg (or 2mL/Kg) SIVP/IO to a single max dosage of 12.5g. q5min prn, titrate to a BGL greater than equal to 4.0mmol or patient improvement.

How do you create D25W?

A

Take a preload of D50W (25g/50mL), expel 25mL (12.5g) and backfill with 25mL normal saline.

A

Waste 40mL (20g) of the D50W and then backfill with 40mL normal saline. Makes 5g/50mL (or D10W).
