Calcium Gluconate 10% Flashcards
Indications for Calcium Gluconate
- Suspected hyperkalemia
- Hypocalcemia (eg, after multiple blood transfusions)
- Mag sulfate toxicity (resp depression, hypotension)
- Beta blocker overdose
- Calcium channel blocker overdose
Adult: Dosage for Calcium Gluconate (in cardiac arrest with suspected hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, hypermagnesemia, or bb/ccc overdose).
3g IVP/IO - Repeat only under OLMC direction.
Contraindications for Calcium Gluconate
- Hypersensitivity
- Hypercalcemia
Pediatric: Dosage for Calcium Gluconate in cardiac arrest with suspected hyperkalemia, hypocalcemia, hypermagnesemia, beta blocker overdose, or calcium channel blocker overdose.
60mg/kg SIVP/IO to a single max dose of 3g
Repeat only under OLMC direction
Avoid extravasation due to high risk of tissue irritation/necrosis. Not recommended in routine treatment of cardiac arrest outside of it’s indications.
Adult: Dosage for Calcium Gluconate (hypotensive beta blocker or calcium channel blocker overdose refractory to fluid boluses and glucagon).
3g IV/IO dilute in 50mL normal saline in a buretrol and infuse over 10min using a large bore, well running IV. Repeat only under OLMC direction.
Avoid extravasation due to the risk of tissue irritation/necrosis
Pediatric: Dosage for Calcium Gluconate in hypotensive beta blocker or calcium channel blocker overdose refractory to fluid boluses and glucagon.
60mg/kg IV/IO to a single max dose of 3g, dilute in 50mL normal saline in a buretrol and infuse over 10min using a large bore, well running IV. Repeat only under OLMC direction.
**Avoid extravasation due to the risk of tissue irritation/necrosis.
