Glands and the hormones they secrete

Sends chemical signals to the pituitary gland to control hormone secretions
What is a hormone?
A chemical messenger to give instruction to cells
What do hormones regulate?
Reproductive cycles, growth, and development
What are some examples of hormones?
Growth hormone, oxytocin, melatonin, insulin, cortisol, epinephrine
What is type 1 diabetes?
Chronic condition where pancreas produces little to no insulin
What does insulin do?
Hormone needed to allow sugar to enter cells to produce energy
What causes type 1 diabetes?
Genetics and some viruses
Is there a cure for type 1 diabetes?
No
What is type 2 diabetes?
Chronic condition that affects the way your body metabolizes sugar
Body rejects that effects of insulin or doesn’t produce enough
How can type 2 diabetes be managed?
Diet and exercise
Medications and insulin therapy
