What is an enchondroma?

A

Benging cartilagenous tumor composed of hyaline cartilage; its origin is from the physis

What is defined by multiple enchondromas and soft-tissue angioma?

A

Maffucci’s syndrome
100% malignant transformation
Ollier’s is only the enchondromas and has <30% malignant transformation
Risk of transformation of solitary enchondroma is 1%

What is the treatment for an enchondroma that has interval change in apperance?

A

Intralesional currettage with bone grafting; also tx of choice for fracture

What can distinguish low grade chondrosarcoma from an enchondroma?

A

as opposed to enchondromas, low-grade chondrosarcomas are typically painful, larger (>5cm), and associated with cortical endosteal scalloping and lysis
