Typhoid-
Ciprofloxacin or cefotaxime
C. diff-
ORAL metronidazole or ORAL vancomycin (if severe) – diagnosed by CDT(C diff toxin) in stool
Biliary tract infection-
Ciprofloxacin or gentamicin or a cephalosporin
Peritonitis-
Metronidazole + gentamicin
Endocarditis (blind therapy)
- Flucloxacillin + gentamicin
Community-acquired severe pneumonia-
co-amoxiclav + clarithromycin
Pneumocystis carinii (HIV patients getting pneumonia)
Co-trimoxazole
Legionnaire’s disease
Erythromycin or clarithromycin
