Embryology Flashcards
Pronephros
week 4, then degenerates
Mesonephros
interim kidney for 1st trimester; later contributes to male genital system
Metanephros
permenant kidney; first appears in 5th week of gestation; nephrogenesis continues through 32-36 weeks gestation
Gives rise to ureter, pelvises, calyces, and collecting ducts (canalizes by 10th week)
Ureteric Bud
Differentiation and formation of glomerulus through to distal convoluted tubule
Metanephric mesenchyme (when ureteric bus interacts with it)
Last renal part to canalize
Ureteropelvic junction
Most commone site of obstruction (hydronephrosis) in fetus
ureteropelvic junction
Potter Syndrome
Babies who cannot pee (oligohydraminos) in utero
POTTER
pulmonary hypoplasia, oligohydraminos, twisted face (retrognathia), Twisted skin, Extermity defects (from compression), renal failure (in utero)
Horseshoe kidney
inferior poles fuse; trapped under IMA; associated with Turner
Nonfunctional kidney consisting of cysts and CT. Usually unilateral. Due to abnormal interaction between ureteric bud and metanephric mesenchyme. NOT INHERITED
Multicystic dysplastic kidney
