Embryology Flashcards
What does pharyngeal arch 1 give rise to?
The maxillary artery (a branch of the external carotid artery)
The maxillary artery will give rise to the middle meningeal artery, and the shenopalatine artery
What does pharyngeal arch 2 give rise to?
The stapedial artery
What does pharyngeal arch 3 give rise to?
The internal carotid artery.
The internal artery then gives rise to the middle and anterior cerebral arteries. This pouch thus gives rise to the anterior circulation of the circle of Willis
What does pharyngeal arch 4 give rise to?
The aortic arch and right subclavian arteries
The subclavian arteries will eventually give rise to the vertebral arteries, which supply the posterior circulation of the circle of Willis
What does pharyngeal arch 5 give rise to?
This arch degenerates in early fetal development
What does pharyngeal arch 6 give rise to?
The pulmonary arteries and ductus arteriosus
