electrical exam Flashcards
electrical shock
Received when current passes through the body
lockout and tagout
locking out and then tagging out the electrical source for the circuit or equipment.
Padlocks must be numbered and assigned to one person
Able to hold up to 6 locks
Communicates danger through the tag, each company name is supposed to write their company name, date and padlock number on the tag.
trenching and excavating
Specific requirements include sloping or shoring up the sides of trenches.
If not the trench will cave in on the person killing or injuring them
PPE
OSHA defines PPE as “equipment for the eyes, ears face head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, protective shields and barriers”
It is a requirement for electricians to wear PPE
Safety glasses must be worn around hazards
Helmets must be worn around anything that can fall on a person’s head
The shoe must be steel-toe, puncture-proof and slip-resistant
Wear hand and ear protection around hazards
fall protection
Identify all fall or tripping hazards
Keep up with housekeeping
Inspect all fall protection equipment
Select the proper equipment for the job you are doing
grounding
a conductive connection to the earth which acts as a protective measure
ladder safety
Use the proper ladder for the job (fibreglass or wood for electrical jobs)
Inspect all parts of the ladder before usage
The ladder should be placed at the proper angle 3 feet from the support structure
Make sure there is always 3 parts of your body touching the ladder
Materials or tools should be hoisted up or down do not carry
Dont stand on the top step of the ladder or leave tools there
Scaffold terms
top rail
mid rail
toe board
vertical bracing
frame coupler
end frame
base plate
WHMIS classes
Class A is Compressed gas
Class B is flammable/combustible material
Class C is oxidizing material
Class D is a poisonous material
types of fire extinguishers
Pressurized water
Carbon dioxide
Foam
Dry chemical
arc flash
the light and heat produced as part of an arc fault, a type of electrical explosion
arc blast
A burst of energy that is caused by arc flash
AFCI vs GFCI
An AFCI outlet or breaker trips when it detects electrical arcing faults.
GFCI outlet or breaker protects against electric shock
testing labs
In ontario, the AHJ is the company in charge of inspection and approved materials
Hardware must be approved ro make sure it is safe to use
conductors and insulators
Insulators - a variety of materials that can transfer energy
Conductors - a type of material that allows for energy transfer through one or more directions
