Elbow/Wrist special tests Flashcards
At what range of motion should varus/valgus stress test at elbow be performed
0-20*
What position would you test for lateral epicondylitis?
What motions would you resist?
elbow 90* flexed, fingers flexed.
Resist wrist extension, radial deviation
What position would you test for medial epicondylitis
What motions would you do?
elbow 90* flexed
Passively supinate, extend elbow, and extend wrist
What does pronator teres syndrome test identify
median nerve entrapment within pronator teres
How do you test for pronator teres syndrome?
resist pronation and elbow extension from 90* flexion.
Positive test is tingling or paresthesia
What does Finkelstein’s test identify
de Quervain’s (tenosynovitis of abductor pollicis longus and extensor pollicis brevis)
What does Bunnel-Littler test identify
tightness in structures around MCP joints
How do you perform the Bunnel-Littler test
Flex PIP in both extension and flexion.
If flexion limited in both, capsular tightness
If limited more in extension, intrinsic tightness
What does Froment’s sign identify
Ulnar nerve dysfunction
How do you perform Froment’s
patient grabs piece of paper between 1st and 2nd digits.
Therapist pulls paper away. If 1st IP flexes, it is a compensation for waek adductor pollicis (possibly due to ulnar nerve disruption.
How do you perform Phalen’s test
Maximally flex both wrists against each other for 1 minute.
Tests for median nerve compression in carpal tunnel
What does Allen’s test (wrist) identify
Vascular compromise of radial or ulnar arteries.
