Why is a staph aureus infection common with atopic eczema?
infection occurs when itching and scratching.
Crusting indicates an infection
What is eczema herpeticum?
A condition caused by the herpes simplex virus which looks like monomorphic punched-out lesions

Itching PLUS 3 OF:
Visible flexural rash history of flexual rash personal history of atopy Generally dry skin Onset before age 2 years
How is eczema treated?
Plenty of emollients Avoiding irritants e.g. shower gels and soaps Topical steroids Treating infection Phototherapy espec. UVB
What is the most important gene involved in atopic eczema?
Filaggrin
What is discoid eczema?
Presents as annular plaques
What is stasis eczema?
Secondary to hydrostatic pressure, oedema and red cell extravasation.
What is photosensitive eczema?
Reacts to sunlight .
Can be secondary to drugs
What is seborrhoeic dermatitis also known as?
Cradle cap dermatitis.
