Ear Anatomy (extra) Flashcards
Blood supply to ear
Superficial temporal a.
Posterior auricular a.
Innervation of ear
Great auricular n. (cervical plexus)
Auriculotemporal n. (V3)
Vagus n. auricular branches
Facial n.
Which nerves innervate tympanic membrane?
Auriculotemporal n. (V3)
Branches from vagus n.
What is anterior to the middle ear?
ICA
What is inferior to middle ear?
IJV
What is posterior to middle ear?
Facial n.
What parts of the malleus and incus articulate?
The heads of both
Where does the tensor tympani m. insert?
Handle of malleus
What articulates with the head of stapes?
Long limb of incus
Where does stapedius m. insert?
Neck of stapes
PSNS to submandibular and sublingual glands
Chroda tympani n. (CN VII) rides along lingual n. (from V3) and synapses in submandibular ganglion. PSNS fibers follow arteries to get to glands
PSNS to parotid gland
Tympanic n. (from CN IX) enters the jugular foramen, and eventually enters middle ear to form tympanic plexus. Lesser petrosal n. enters foramen ovale and synapses in otic ganglion. PSNS fibers ride along w/ auriculotemporal n. (V3) to get to parotid.
Where does chorda tympani n. cross in the middle ear cavity?
Across the handle of the malleus
