how is the diagnosis of dysfunctional bleeding made?
By exclusion; if there is no pathologic cause of menorrhagia, intermentrual bleeding or postmenopausal bleeding
what happens in a secondary cause due to hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis dysfunction
there is continuous oestrogen secretion which stimulates the overgrowth of the endometrium and sheds off as bleeding and at irregular times and varying amounts
when does dysfunctional uterine bleeding typically occur
near menarche and menopause
what is diagnosis of dysfunctional uterine bleeding. based on
it is based on history and physical examination to rule out other causes
what is the gold standard investigation in dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Endometrial sampling (which determine if ovulation is occurring)
what is the treatment
oral contraceptive (in excessive bleeding use conjugate oestrogen)
what is the indication for NSAIDs use
it can be used in ovulatory dysfunctional uterine bleeding as it can decrease menstrual blood loss
what is the surgical intervention for dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Dilatation and curettage or hysterectomy (in refractory cases)
