what is the main causative agents
• HPV is main causative agent (serotype 16 &18)
what is the most common cell type
squamous cell carcinoma and then adenocarcinoma
what has been linked with adenocarcinoma
exposure to DES has been linked
classic presentation
Postcoital bleeding
Abnormal vaginal bleeding, watery vagina discharge and pelvic pain
Bimanual examination = Palpable mass within the cervix
diagnosis
Pap smear and primary prevention programs (ie.e evey 3 years >25 and every 5yrs >45yrs )
patient with abnormal smear
should be sent to tertiary centre for cervical biopsy via colposcopy
treatment
Cone biopsy if patient wishes for fertility
In invasive cervical carcinmona (contained within the cervix, uterine corpus and vagina) = radical hysterectomy
Cisplatin based chemotherapy
