DUMS powerpoint Flashcards
CNS- whats in it?
brain and spinal cord
PNS- whats in it?
12 CNs and 31 spinal nerves
31 Spinal nerves:
C1-C8

what is a dermatome?
-Area of skin supplied with sensory innervation from a single nerve
-also supplies sensory innervation to deeper structures
-innervation of skin by adjacent spinal nerves shows overlap
what is a myotome?
-the skeletal muscles supplied with motor innervation from a single nerve
-may be deep to dermatome of some spinal nerve, but not always
dermatome of nipple
T4
dermatome of umbilicus
T10
dermatome of posterior scalp, neck and shoulder
C2-C4
dermatome of upper limb
C5-T1
dermatome of lower limb, gluteal region + perineum
L2- C0
where are the cell bodies in CNS and PNS
CNS- nuCleus
PNS- ganglion
what innervates the posterior compartment of thigh, leg and sole of foot?
sciatic
what controls the spinal cord reflexes
dermatomes and myotomes simoultaneously
what and where is the ‘nerve point’ of the neck and why is it important
-just above the midpoint of the posterior border of the SCM (sternocleidomastoid muscle)
-sensory nerves of the cervical plexus
-special care required during biopsy
why are T1 and T2 anterior rami important?
important for referred pain from the myocardium
