What are tigeminal autonomic cephalgias?
A group of PRIMARY HEADACHE disorders characterised by TRIGEMINAL DISTRIBUTION PAIN that occur in association with prominent IPSILATERAL CRANIAL AUTONOMIC features

-Cluster (more common in males)
-Paroxysmal hemicrania
-Hemicrania continue
-SUNCT
who is paroxysmal hemicrania more common in?
50 to 60s
women > men
(Not as common as cluster headaches)
presentation of paroxysmal hemicrania?
severe unilateral headache
-unilateral autonomic features
-paroxysmal
10-30 mins
1 to 40 a day (often >5)
Attacks occur more frequently but shorter than cluster headaches
how long/ often do paroxysmal hemicrania headaches occur?
10- 30 mins a day
1 to 40 a day (often >5)
treatment- paroxysmal hemicrania?
Absolute response to INDOMETHICIN
(very strong NSAID)
who is hemicrania continua more common in?
-women
50-60s
presentation hemicrania continua?
Severe unilateral headache
Unilateral autonomic features
Can be exacerbated by movement
Can have restlessness/agitation
Constant duration!!
management hemicrania continua?
Absolute response to INDOMETHICIN
(very strong NSAID)
Presentation of SUNCT?
- Unilateral neuralgiaform headache
- Short-lived (15-120 secs)
- Conjunctival injections
- Tearing
how long does SUNCT last?
usually 15- 120 seconds
management of SUNCT?
Lamotrigine (also used in bipolar and epilelpsy)
