Dopamine Flashcards
Dopamine Indications
Improve hemodynamic status in shock patients due to reduced CO
Dopamine Preparation
40 mg/mL preparation
200mg (5mL) or 400 mg (10mL) vials in a 250 mL or 500 mL solution
Dopamine Dosing
2-5 mcg/kg/min
Max 50 mcg/kg/mL
Infusion Rate (mL/hour) =
[Dose (mcg/kg/min) * kg * 60 (min/hour)]/concentration (mcg/mL)
Dopamine Contraindications
Pheochromocytoma (tumor causing excessive catecholamine production)
Dopamine Adverse Effects
Tissue ischemia
Cardiac arrhythmias
Hypotension after abrupt discontinuation
Dopamine MOA
Precursor to norepinephrine
beta 1 and alpha 1 receptors
Dopamine Drug Class
Catecholamine
Dopamine Pharmacodynamics
<5 mcg: vasodilation
5-10 mcg: beta 1 activation, increasing heart rate and contractility
>10 mcg: alpha 1 activation, vasoconstriction
