Initial rotation of the door handle opens the vent to equalize the cabin pressure with ambient pressure. At low press diff the door can be opened but at high pressure diff the handle can only be partially opened.
At very high differential the vent cannot be opened.

When the correct code is entered, the AUTO UNLK light illuminates on the aisle stand. The door will open after a pre-determined time delay. This is to gain access in case of pilot incapacitation. If there is no response form the pilots in 20 seconds a chime will sound in the cockpit. After another 20 seconds the AUTO UNLK flashes and the aural alert sounds continuously, this means that the door will be unlocked 20 seconds later for a period of 5 seconds.
