22
Q

A

The VBR selector is the Navigation Filter Selector. It filters VOR, ADF, ILS or DME audio. V=Voice, only the voice audio is heard B=Both, both the voice and range audio are heard R=Range audio(morse code) is heard

23
Q

A

The APP selector is the Approach Receiver Selector and selects the approach receiver to be monitored. APP L=left ILS APP C=center ILS APP R=right ILS MKR=marker beacon

24
Q

What are the two ways you can answer a call from the cabin?

A

To take a cabin call, you can either pick up the handset and talk through it like a normal phone. You can also press the CAB call/mic button to take the call and then talk by pushing up the mic switch. There is no need to press the receiver button to listen if the speaker button is pressed. If a head set is worn, the other pilot not taking the call can listen in by either pressing the call/mic button or push the receiver button

25
Q

What is the effect of using AM button for the HF radio?

A

The HF radio always transmit in a single sideband so the AM switch only affects the received signal.

26
Q

What is the purpose of squelch and how can you turn it ON or OFF?

A

If you push and hold a Radio Tuning Switch, it removes the automatic squelch on the selected VHF radio until the switch is released. Squelch is used to suppress the sound of channel noise when the radio is not receiving a transmission. Squelch can be opened, which allows all signals entering the receiver to be heard. This can be useful when trying to hear distant or otherwise weak signals.

27
Q

What is the purpose of the “Service Interphone Switch”?

A

The service interphone system provides voice communication between ground crew stations at various locations around the aircraft. The systems can be connected to the FLT interphone system through the service interphone switch. With the switch to ON, it connects the service and FLT interphone systems.

28
Q

What is the difference between having the cockpit voice recorder switch in AUTO compared to ON when you enter the aircraft?

A

With the switch to AUTO, the cockpit voice recorder runs from first engine start until 10 min after last engine shutdown. With the switch to ON, the voice recorder runs until first engine start, then is spring-loaded to AUTO.

29
Q

What is the difference between the CAPT/NORM/FO selections on the OBS audio selector?

A

In the NORM position, the First Observer ACP is connected to the First Observers hand mic, headphone, boom mic and oxygen mask mic.
In the CAPT and F/O position, it connects the Captains/First Officers hand mic, headphone, boom mic, oxygen mask mic, speaker, and MIC/INTERPHONE switches to the First Observers ACP.
