What is the process for divorce?

1. Initiation - The husband says ‘I divorce you’ 3 times. (some say there must be a gap between each announcement)
2. Reconciliation - Couple looks to the Qu’ran which can encourage them to try and reconcile and reach a peaceful solution as ‘peace is best’ (Surah 4:128)
3. Completion - Divorce takes place. If the marriage has been consummated( sex has taken place), the husband is required to give the full mahr. If it hadnt, husband is required to give half the mahr
