What is the aim of SW policy on diversity and inclusion
It aims to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace to help SW flourish
What are my responsibilities as an employee
- to familiarise myself with the policy and ensure I understand my role
- treat everyone with respect
- be conscious of how my actions impact others
What are Scottish Water responsibility as an employer in terms of equality
- to ensure there is clear guidance available to employees
- to promote D&I in the workplace
- to ensure all decision effecting employment , training and workplace are based solely of ability and experience
What is unconscious Bias
unconscious bias is a set of pre-conceived ideas that you might hold in your mind about a certain type of person or group of people. These views then play a role in our decision making, judgements and views. People are often unaware of their unconscious bias.
How do I challenge my unconscious bias?
- ask myself what my decision making is based upon
2. ask myself would have I have acted different if X,Y or Z were different
Name the 3 types of unconscious bias
- personal bias-supports my own views
- preconceptions- set of views we hold in our mind, like a stereotype
- group bias- human tend to define themselves with social groups so its common to align yourself with people similar to yourself.
