What is the Tuckman Theory?

A

Bruce Tuckman theory focuses on how a team approaches a task. Originally formed of 4 separate phases however later on a 5th phase was included.
Forming - assembly of team
Storming - address task by suggesting ideas
Norming - Agreeing rules and values of operation
Performing - identied high levels of idenepdence, knowledge and competence
Adjourning - end of project and breakup of team

What is the Herzberg Theory?

A

Frederick Herzberg’s theorgy is a two factor motivational theory based on hydiene and motivatoinal factors
- Workers are encouraged to work harder based on motivational factors such as empowerment, job enlargement and job enrichment
- Workers can become de-motivated if hygeine factors are not met such as renumeration, comfortable working conidtions and annual leave entitlement

A

Diversity in the workplace relates to the acceptance and inclusion of employees of all backgrounds
Ensuring diveristy in the workplace is an important asset of an organisation as it acknowledges the individual strengths of each employee and the potentail they bring.

What are some advantages of a diverse team?

A

Increased productivity - diversity of talent will result in a broader range of skills amongst the team and result in increased producitivty
Increased creativity - Differing skill sets and perspectives within the team will increase the change of generating solutions to workplace problems.
Improved cultural awarenes - A diverse range of cultures within the workplace allows companies to operate more effectively within a global marke place
A positive reputaiton - Companies with a diverse workaplce are often precived as better employers.

What are inclusive environments?

A

A cultrually inclusive environment requires mutual respec, effective relationships, clear communication, understanding of expectations and criticial self-refelection
Within an inclusive environemnt, people of all cultural orientations can freely express who they are, their own opinions of view.

A

According to Deloitte’s article on diversity and inclusion, it states, “A growing body of research
indicates that diverse and inclusive teams outperform their peers. Companies with inclusive talent
practices in hiring, promotion, development, leadership, and team management generate up to 30
percent higher revenue per employee and greater profitability than their competitors’’.

Please explain your understanding of inclusion within the workplace?

A

• Inclusion within the workplace is creating an environment and culture where all company employees
feel like they belong in the organisation.
• This results in every employee being comfortable to voice their opinions and that no one person feels
excluded on the basis of their identity.

A

• Unconscious bias refers to the associations and assumptions that a person may have about someone
solely because of their race, gender or disability.
• These judgements are made without conscious awareness.
• These automatic assumptions and stereotypes are a major contributor to a lack of workplace diversity.
