Diversity and Inclusion Flashcards
The similarities and differences between individuals, accounting for all aspects of one’s personality and individual identity
diversity
The laws mandate a percentage quota or other special considerations for specified minority or ethnic groups
The principle of “reservation”
A focus on promoting fairness and justice via organizational structure, distinct from the notion of equality.
equity
Voluntary groups for employees who share a particular diversity dimension.
Employee resource groups, or ERGs
the extent to which each person in an organization feels welcomed, respected, supported, and valued as a team member
inclusion
The defensive behavior occurs when an organization recruits a diverse workforce but, consciously or otherwise, promotes assimilation rather than inclusion. The subtle (if unintended) message to recruits is “you are welcome despite of who you are, not because of who you are.”
covering
Covering affects workers’ behavior along four dimensions
Appearance, Affiliation, Association, Advocacy
three main reasons why a strategic approach is required
priority, complexity, and resistance
a task force created to define the D&I initiative and guide the process
diversity council
Accenture’s three-part approach needed for comprehensive D&I training
